Nags Head, NC

A week ago, I travelled to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to photograph a wedding with photographer Raymond Goodman.  For those of you who don't know me, the beach is definitely one of my "happy places" so I was more than eager to head to the coast for this wedding.  I stayed in this old, quirky motel called the Sea Foam Motel and my room looked right out over the ocean!

One thing that I love about the beach (aside from the ocean, of course) is the beach houses!  I love driving around and looking at all the different colors, sizes, and shapes of the homes that line the shore.

Oh, by the way... Can I just say how much I love Adobe Photoshop CS6?!  I finally upgraded from CS4 (yes, I was a little behind) and I cannot believe how amazing CS6 is.  And I also have this awesome program called RadLab.  All of the images in this post were processed using it; it's so much fun!  You guys should definitely go check it out.

Well that's all for now, but I should be posting images from the wedding soon!

XOXO,
Holly

"Tune in, turn off, drop out, drop in, switch off, switch on, and explode!"

Hello everyone!

It has been a while since I actually typed out an update so here you go:

The past three months up here in New York City have flown by.  I'm leaving bright and early this coming Tuesday, June 12 and while I'm excited to go home and see everyone, I'm pretty reluctant to leave this magical city behind.  I had such a great experience learning under the amazing photographer Anna Wolf and I feel so unbelievably lucky to have been given the opportunity to work so closely with someone whose work I admire so much!

So a lot has been happening: I had three photo shoots in the past seven days, two of which were only a day apart; our music video for House of Fools finally premiered; and on an unrelated note, I bleached and dyed my hair!  I have met and worked with some incredible people who share the same passion as me to create a beautiful image and I hope to work with them again in the future.  So sit back and stay tuned for some more photo posts!

Now, I have less than 48 hours left to explore the city a bit more and then it's time to pack up, move back home for a few months, and graduate.  I cannot wait to see everyone and do lots of shooting in North Carolina.

Until next time!
xoxo,
Holly

"Oblivion" - House of Fools, music video

So earlier this year, friends/fellow photographers Andy, Natalie, and I produced, directed, filmed, and edited a music video for an awesome band called House of Fools.

It premiered today on AOL's music website, www.spinner.com, as the Video of the Day.

Check it out!

And be sure to check out some more of House of Fools' great music.

Spring 2012: Internship with Anna Wolf

A couple days ago, I landed my Spring 2012 internship!
YAY!

I will be moving to New York City for three months to work with the amazingly talented commercial photographer Anna Wolf!  Her beautiful work has landed her with quite the impressive client list, which ranges from Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters to Target and Toyota.  I feel so unbelievably lucky to have the opportunity to study under Ms. Wolf so stay tuned for updates!

Here are a few of my favorite images from her:

Halls Defense Commercial: Sneak Peek!

For our advertising photography and multimedia classes, we had to create a 15 second commercial for a product of our choice.  Kayleigh and I chose to do Halls Defense Vitamin C Drops.  The drops come in three different flavors: grapefruit, lemon, and orange.  Here are some screen captures of our raw, unprocessed video footage:

Remember His Name...

Now introducing Mr. Alec Shull!

Alec is a freshman in the Theatre program at UNC-G.  He is a good friend of mine from high school and seeing the growth from his freshman year in high school to now has been unbelievable!  He's an extremely talented actor so remember his name!  I have taken headshots for him in the past so when he contacted me asking to just shoot for fun, of course I jumped at the opportunity.

We shot using only natural light with a white reflector to for a little bit of fill light.

Spring 2012: Self Promo #3

Last week, I posted a sneak preview from this shoot but now that the project has been submitted and graded, here it is!

The wider, full body photos were lit with my SB-900 speedlight shot through an umbrella camera right.  The close up shot was lit with only natural window light.

Here's the final image I turned in:

Special thanks to Melissa Stanley for helping me bring my vision to life!

Spring 2012: Self Promo #2

For my second self-promo of the semester, I wanted to do a fashion shoot.  I've had this concept in mind for quite some time and finally set it in motion!  I was going for a warm, sunlit, serious fashion look and I hope I achieved it!
Victoria Cox was not only my beautiful model but also the very talented dress designer.  I think she did an amazing job on both aspects and I really appreciate all the effort put forth to make this shoot happen!

New York City Panorama

While on internship, I found the perfect view of NYC's skyline in Weehawken, New Jersey.  I had it set in my mind that I was going to shoot a nighttime panorama and about a week before I left New Jersey, I made it happen!  Fellow photographer Brandon Warren and I froze our butts off to get these shots.

This is a 13-photograph panorama, each photo with an exposure of 15 seconds at f/13.

October 1, 2011 Wedding: Allison Buie and Davis Ray

On October first of 2011, I teamed up with fellow classmate Natalie Lowdermilk to shoot the wedding of Allison Buie and Davis Ray.  This was the second wedding I have shot and I feel so lucky to have been a part of this special ceremony.

Best wishes to the beautiful, happy couple!
